DataStage Forum

Bad news : DSXchange had introduced a charging scheme for “Premium Content / Premium Membership”. It’s around USD $50 per year. Here is what they said :

Due to the overwhelming growth and success of the DSXchange, it’s time to make a few changes. The forum’s vast amount of information delivers great value to thousands of developers around the globe, and because of its increasingly critical role in the success of DataStage®, its related products, and the projects of so many developers around the world, we must find a way to facilitate the continued operation of this outstanding resource, even in the face of rising support costs. To that end, we are phasing in Basic/Premium division of content on the DSXchange. Chances are you linked to this page from our January Newsletter. However, you also may have landed here by clicking a “Premium Content” button in one of the topics you were reading in the forum. You probably noticed that this button appears over what would have been the contents of a post. This means that the response was written by a “Premium Poster”, and while a few words are revealed to give you some idea of the substance of the response, the majority of the reply will only be accessible to Premium Members.

So who are these Premium Posters? Our Premium Posters consist of over a dozen top-notch consultants and developers with numerous years of experience that have distinguished themselves as experts in the field. Many of these members are already leaders and mentors on this site and elsewhere. As a collective whole, these Premium Posters are a formidable source for knowledge and advice and they are all dedicated to the ongoing existence and success of this community. If you’d like to see a list of our experts check out the article entitled “Premium Posters” on the front page of our website. In addition to premium content within posts, we will soon begin adding new content areas (forums, download areas, etc.) that will only be available to Premium Members.

After a few trial, it seems that the most part of the discussion, i.e. the answer, are all masked as “Premium Content”. So, are those Premium Posters got paid for each click? If not, why they keep provide the solution, and being a free labour for others.

I’m quite shocking for what dsxchange did, turning an community to commerical products. In the theme of Web2.0, we are looking for user participation, while getting the return with the long tail. I also doubt that with all valuable information masked, this forum is going to die out soon.

You may want to try other free resources, like IBM’s official developer forum and Tek-Tips.

I’m sorry that I might not help right the way, cos i am on leave till mid Oct. I didn’t have any DS doc / server in my home …

But you better check if the server process is up and running. In UNIX, try “ps -ef | grep dsrpcd” …

    dsrpcd Issues

The DataStage RPC daemon, dsrpcd, is the means by which processes that represent DataStage jobs are started. The environment that DataStage processes inherit when they are started is the same environment as for dsrpcd. For information about dsrpcd and its environment requirements, see “Environment Variables” on page 3-19 and DataStage Administrator Guide. The dsrpcd daemon is started when you start the DataStage server. If you cannot start the dsrpcd process, there may be an open connection from a DataStage client. This can happen when you shut down the
DataStage server without closing all client connections, thus causing the port to be unavailable for use with new connections. To avoid an open connection, ensure that all client connections are closed (that is, no active
sockets) before shutting down the DataStage server. Enter the following command at the UNIX prompt:

    # netstat | grep dsrpcd

This command produces no output when all dsrpcd connections are closed. At this point, you can terminate the dsrpcd process by shutting down the DataStage server. Without shutting down the client processes, sockets are released on most platforms after the timeout period of about 6-10 minutes, depending on system tuning.

if it is a windows Platform . In the control panel you will have a symbol named A when you click that it shows the three services (either started or stopped). Please start them .

RPC Daemon not running means the service (tcp/ip protocol) should be running on the server host machine otherwise client cannot connect to the server

If you are on UNIX/Linux machine, then check out for the entry dsrpc in the /etc/services .
the entry is normally dsrpc 31538/tcp .
if this entry is not there then please add this and go to the DSEngine folder in the installation .
From there execute this command . ./dsenv
    then bin/uv -admin -start
then check for ps -ef | grep dsrpc.
if you get any out put then the service started and you can now try to connect otherwise login as root and follow the above steps mentioned

    Hope this will help you

we are getting source fields in the form of “” i.e “E1324″,”100000″,”20090110”.
Problem is we are getting fields in the rejected record like “E1234,100000,20090110”. But instead of this i want to get the records as it is there in the source.
And one more important point is here we are doing concatination on the fields and then reject the records into rejection file. In concatination we are mentioned for all columns like Lnk_columnname:P_DELIMITER…………
