Just got my google app engine account ready.  Want to have a try with it, say create one or two facebook apps.  It seems that as it become much easier for people to create gadget or application on these open platform, it is also more difficult to raise your application’s popularity.  And people become more demanding when choose these application, UI, services, latest update … etc.  These minor things do make different.

By the way, do you have any idea on how to utilize these open resource ?   Please left a word.

The development of wireless access to internet is hot. We got various Wifi technology (a/b/g … n) , 3G, HDPSA and even WiMax. And we even have some companies biding for the wave spectrum to support access in air.

On the other hand, we have plenties fancy handheld gadget released every months, Sony UX-50, Samsung Q1 Asus Eee PC. The temperature is even higher when Apple is joining the mobile phone market. You know what, the 3G enabled iPhone will be released in 2008. Besides, the internet giant Google also took several moves this year: (1) announce Android with tens of major telecoms / phone manufacturer; (2) bid for wireless spectrum in US; (3) various enhancement released for its unique Google Map platform.

When all these joined up, people’s life will change sooner that what we can imagine. What we can do in front the computer today, someone may do anytime / anywhere with the handheld gadget soon. The first move, is the email communicaton with BlackBerry (years ago), then, TV entertainment. And what’s next ?

Facebook 從不知名的渠道入侵香港，近期大熱非常。而 Facebook 的 Developer Platform 又好似幾得意。不過大量的 Apps 真係好煩，尤其 Apps 之間的兼容性極低，有違 Web 2.0 的精神。好果可以將不同的 Apps 自由組合起來，應會更好玩。

 以下是一些異想天開的想法:

• Wall Integrated : Wall / SuperWall / FunWall … 真係有好鬼多，如果可以結合為一個，你話幾好，唔使咁煩
• Blog Integrated : 好多人都有寫 blog 但係又必都可以直接搜入 Facebook ，如果可以的話，你話 …
• Photo Integrated : 我自己就己經有好多網上相簿，其實唔係好想係 Facebook 又開多個。但佢果個可以 Tag 的 feature 其他地方又冇喎，如果可以 Tag 到 Facebok 以外的相，你話 …
• Bookmark Integrated : 如果可以將甚麼 del.ico.us, blogmarks, clipmarks, blinklist, dingo … 結合一齊的話 …

正所謂 “分久必合，合久必分” …

After MIT launched its openware to public.  UC Berkeley distribute a full course lecture on Youtube.  lectures Upcoming news : Harvard is planning to release something similar in Second-Life alike platform, though don’t know if it is free.

Update : Though Pandora is blocked in some areas.  But we got YoBo from the Greater China !! which offers similar service (if not a clone).

Ever imagine that you can control your browser just by the mouse movement (they call it mouse gesture) ?!  Here is the sample instructions …

The idea was used in the browser designed by Maxthon, a Chinese-Israeli startup, which just joined the big big Google family recently.  Such new experience may help Maxthon gaining a big hit, just like the new video game Wii.

Removing locks when you receive the error:…Cannot get exclusive access …

1. Login to DataStage Administrator as an administrative user.
2. Go to the Command Prompt for that Project.
3. Look at the locks by executing:

LIST.READU

4. The last column is the item id. Look for item id’s like:

jobname

This is the record you will want to unlock. Now you can note the inode or user no, whichever uniquely identifies the record.

5. The unlock command is not available by default in the projects. To create an entry to use unlock execute the following two commands:

>SET.FILE UV VOC UV.VOC
>COPY FROM UV.VOC TO VOC UNLOCK

Note: This only needs to be done the first time in each project.

6. To unlock by either INODE or User No use the commands:

UNLOCK INODE inodenumber ALL
UNLOCK USER usernumber ALL

Another approach :

1. telnet to DS server machine as ds administrative account (dsadm or root for example);
2. cd to $DSHOME;
3. source dsenv by “. ./dsenv”; (read as dot_space_dot_dsenv)
4. run “bin/uvsh” to enter TCL prompt;
5. run “>LIST.READU EVERY”, are you able to find any lock for the project under Active Record Locks? If yes, mark down the Userno for the command below;
6 run “>UNLOCK USER userno ALL”;
7. run “>LIST.READU EVERY” again to verify the lock for the user is gone;
8. repeat step 6 and 7 until all locks for the project is clear;
9. run “>LO” to exit TCL prompt.
10. try login to the project again.
